John Carter

(B.V.Sc (Hons) Melb 1975)

Dr Carter has been a Vet for over 30 years.  He was brought up in Ardmillan Road,Moonee Ponds.  He went to school at  Essendon Primary School followed by Essendon High School where he won a scholarship to go to Essendon Grammar.  He was a keen swimmer at school being place in the top 2 or 3 in the State.  He competed locally in the Essendon Swimming Club.  He managed to gain entrance to Veterinary Science at Melbourne University and graduated in 1975.  He worked at Melbourne University as a Research Assistant and Clinician followed by an appointment at the Bundoora Veterinary Clinic.  He started the Broadmeadows Vet Clinic in 1979 and sold it after 15 years.  He started Moonee Central Vet in 1998.  His interests are in Small Animal Surgery particularly orthopaedics and Ultrasound.  He is married with 4 grown up children most of whom have worked part-time at the Clinic over the years.  He is married to Suzanne and they live on a farm out at Mickleham.  He has worked as a flying vet for several years in the Northern Territory.  He used to play A Grade Polocrosse for Casterton for many years.  His interests outside work are gardening, farming, swimming and Pilates.  He is a practicing Christian and member of Essendon Baptist.

Shaminder Kaur (Sammi)

Veterinarian (B.V.Sc)

I graduated from Melbourne University in 2007 and started my career at Diamond Creek Veterinary Clinic.  I then moved to Our Vet Group where I stayed for 5 years.  I was promoted to Head Vet after 2 years.  I gained significant experience in Exotic Pets while at Our Vet Group.  This included rabbits, guinea pigs and birds.  After 5 years I moved into Emergency Medicine at Animal Accident and Emergency at Essendon Airport.  This has now changed ownership and is called Animal Referal Hospital.  I stayed here for 2 years and did extensive training in Animal Emergency and Critical Care.  While here I got the opportunity to work with leading Medical and Surgical Specialists.  More recently I worked for 2 years at the RSPCA  as Senior Veterinarian.  I am married and have two children.  We have a Rottweiller called Gizmo and have a passion for music and the piano.


Head Nurse (Diploma of Veterinary Nursing and Grooming)

Tineke is our Head Nurse who has a wealth of experience and knowledge in handling cats and dogs.  She is our Puppy School Instructor and has many years experience in Grooming and handling dogs.  Tineke loves horse riding and going to the Gym and keeping fit.  She also loves "Riley", her 5 year old male Staffi.

Kate Penney

Veterinary Nurse (Diploma Veterinary Nursing)

Kate started with us about six months ago.  She is part way through a Science Degree.  She loves cats and dogs.
