John Carter

(B.V.Sc (Hons) Melb 1975)

Dr John has been a Vet for over 30 years. Dr John was raised in Moonee Ponds, and was educated locally, winning a scholarship to Essendon Grammar. He was a keen swimmer at school, placing in state wide competitions and competing locally in the Essendon Swimming Club. Dr John graduated from Melbourne University with honours in 1975. He worked at Melbourne University as a research assistant and clinician followed by an appointment at the Bundoora Veterinary Clinic. He also worked as a flying vet for several years in the Northern Territory. Dr John then branched out into practice ownership, founding the Broadmeadows Vet Clinic in 1979.

After 15 years, Dr John sold this practice and started the Moonee Central Vet Clinic in 1998. John is highly experienced in small animal surgery, and has a special interest in orthopaedics and ultrasound. He has four grown-up children, most of whom have worked part-time at the clinic over the years. John and his wife Suzanne live on a farm out at Mickleham. When Dr John is not caring for patients, he enjoys gardening, swimming and pilates. He is a practicing Christian and member of Essendon Baptist.


Shaminder Kaur (Sammi)

Veterinarian (B.V.Sc)

Dr Sammi graduated from Melbourne University in 2007 and started her career at the Diamond Creek Veterinary Clinic. She then moved to Our Vet Group, where she was promoted to Head Vet after 2 years. She gained significant experience in Exotic Pets while at Our Vet Group, including working with rabbits, guinea pigs and birds. After 5 years she transitioned into emergency medicine at Animal Accident and Emergency at Essendon Airport (now known as Animal Referral Hospital). She stayed here for 2 years and did extensive training in Animal Emergency and Critical Care. While working at this clinic she had the opportunity to work with leading Medical and Surgical Specialists, improving her own knowledge in these fields. More recently, she has worked at the RSPCA  as Senior Veterinarian. She is married and has two children. Dr Sammi has a Rottweiller called Gizmo, and has a passion for music and the piano.


Ania McInerney

Veterinarian (DVM, BSc)

Dr Ania is a graduate from Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Melbourne, and also holds two Bachelor degrees in science and music. She worked in small animal general practice around Melbourne, before joining the team at the Moonee Central Vet in 2019. Dr Ania has a special interest in animal behaviour, and is passionate about treating the mental health needs of her patients. She also enjoys soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and seeing her patients go home to their loving family at the end of their treatment.

Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr Ania was a professional opera singer who toured in Australia and abroad. She still enjoys performing occasionally around Melbourne, when she isn't escaping the city to go hiking or camping. She lives with her beautiful husband Andy and their sassy feline overlord, Ziggy.


Tineke

Practice Manager (Diploma of Veterinary Nursing and Grooming)

Tineke is the practice manager and head nurse at Moonee Central Vet, and has a wealth of experience and knowledge in handling cats and dogs. She runs our Puppy School classes, and loves helping get little ones off to their best start in life. She is an experienced groomer and vet nurse, and is passionate about patient care. Tineke loves horse riding, going to the gym and keeping fit. She also loves Riley, her 8-year-old male Staffi.


Kate Penney

Veterinary Nurse (Diploma Veterinary Nursing)

Kate has had a lifelong passion for animals. A country girl, Kate grew up on a chicken farm, sharing her backyard with 400,000 birds! Kate started working at Moonee Central Vet in 2017 while studying for her Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University. After graduation, she decided to remain with us full time. Kate was involved with greyhound racing for many years, and now shares her home with her beautiful Snowy, who came to her through the Greyhound Adoption Program. When not caring for our adoption kittens, Kate loves to travel and enjoy good food and wine.
